Hi, I have been using my Aranet4 for two years with 2800mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries. I noticed that even when the batteries are fully charged, the Aranet4 shows that the batteries are not full. Is it possible that the Aranet4 is simply measuring the voltage of the battery, and showing low-battery warning because NiMH batteries tend to have the same voltage at 100% as alkaline batteries do at 50-60%?
Would it be possible to get a firmware update that exposes a rechargeable/non-rechargeable switch so that the battery status can be displayed correctly?

Thank you for using Aranet and for the valuable feedback!
The usage of rechargeable batteries has not been prioritized as the product was designed for extended battery life using Alkaline or Lithium batteries. Still, the feature request has been internally registered and will be evaluated.bimbam

What sense does it make to use rechargeable batteries, when battery life is about 3 years?
You will have trouble with self-dicharge and frequent re-charging and in the end there are no savings or even more costs than with normal batteries.ben

The Vara Industrial Pro Alkaline batteries that came with my Aranet4 device are about to expire and I was search the forum to learn about the requirements for the replacement battery. The only hint I found is the reply from Aranet above.
I'm also thinking to replace them with Eneloops NiMH rechargeable batteries I have plentyful at hand vs. bying dedicated hiqh quality single-use stuff.
I want to disagree with the previous position that this is necessarily a bad idea: a) do i.e. Eneloops have a very low self-discharge (30% over 10 years!) nor does b) is in more active use cases (2min internval, BT enabled, extended range, frequent history readouts) the actual lifespan reach anything like 2 years. Still an impressive lifespan, but IMHO worth considering rechargeable batteries.
