I am seeing very rapid, sudden spikes a few times a day (ie. It was 840 ppm at 9:47 AM, jumped to 1920 at 9:48, and then started dropping, 1290 at 9:49, back down to the upper 800s at 9:52) As far as I can tell, nothing in the room has changed at all when this is happening. Is this normal? Is it a problem with the measurement tool?

Hello!
Those spikes can happen, perhaps something around is causing high concentration of CO2 moving around and sensor is detecting it. In any case, if you feel that sensor might be missreading please perform a manual calibration. You can check the instructions in the other page of our forum here: How to calibrate Aranet4
