My Aranet 4 has been operating for two months and during that time it has skipped several days at a time. The missing days range from 3 to 4 to 6 to 8 days at a time. It has genearlly been in the same room most of that time.

Hi Lance!
Please make sure that you manually open the app, if "Background data read" is not enabled, during the days that the data is in the devices memory.
The time it takes for the device to delete old data is dependant on the measurment interval and is visible here:

During historic data availability time, you must open the app and connect to the sensor, for it to download all the data on the phone.
Alternatively, enabling "Background data read" you can just be in close proximity to the device for some time and the data will download in the background.
